On November 8, 2019 Mr. Alejandro Campos and\nour partner Hugo Mor\u00e1n R., acting as President and Secretary of Crime Stoppers\nPanama, respectively, presented to the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament\n(PARLATINO) the legislative initiative called \u201cModel Law to Combat Illicit\nTrade and Transnational Organized Crime\u201d.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This model Law was presented to Latin American\nCongressmen of the Commission on Citizen Security, Combat and Prevention of\nDrug Trafficking, Terrorism and Organized Crime of PARLATINO, who received a\ndetailed support of the aforementioned initiative to provide best practices to\ncombat Transnational Organized Crime, trademark counterfeiting, illicit trade,\nsmuggling, including diversion of genuine products, and illegal practices\nthrough electronic commerce and in free trade zones. Likewise, the Model Law\nincludes chapters to strengthen cooperation, international assistance and\npublic-private participation between governmental entities and trademark\nowners, proposing a Public-Private Inter-institutional Council for the Fight\nand Prevention of Illicit Trade.\u00a0 Finally, a chapter was included to encourage\neducation and training of consumers, users, authorities and civil society in\ngeneral so that they are aware of the problems and negative results of illicit\ntrade and transnational organized crime.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Model Law constitutes the first Latin\nAmerican regulation that compiles in a single document, best practices to\ncombat all these crimes, taking into account that organized crime operates\nwithout considering the borders between countries.\u00a0 This regulation will\nbe submitted in 2020 agenda for final endorsement. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Latin American and Caribbean Parliament\n(PARLATINO) is made up of congressmen and active deputies from 23 Latin\nAmerican countries from Central America, the Caribbean and South America, such\nas Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico,\nAruba, Cuba, Curacao, St. Marteen, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Bolivia,\nBrazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and\nVenezuela.\u00a0 PARLATINO has adopted 94 model laws in different areas of\nsecurity such as money laundering and financing of terrorism, tax evasion,\ncorruption, human trafficking, cybercrime, among others, which have been\nadopted by Latin American Congresses in the last 20 years.\u00a0 \n\nMORAN IP is providing\npro bono legal advice to CRIME STOPPERS PANAMA Foundation in the drafting of\nthe Model Law to Combat Illicit Trade and Transnational Organized Crime.\u00a0 \n\n\n\n<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
